In the film Charlie Chaplin film Modern Times, Charlie does many things to
satirize life at the turn of the century. The
opening shot in the movie shows a herd of sheep passing through a gate, which sets the scene for the rest of the film. The plot of the film is Charlie working on a typical assembly line of the time, except of course, every thing is
exaggerated. The
conveyor belt that Charlie works on is going super fast and in reality would be impossible. He mocks the fact that the work that he is doing is so
repetitive that when ever he stops he twitches and does not have
control of what he is doing.
In the film he goes so crazy doing his repetitive, mindless task that he ends up destroying the factory and ends up going to an insane asylum. The final shot of the film is a joke showing charlie in the wrong place at the wrong time; he ends up getting blamed as the leader of an up-rising and gets arrested... again.
